Yes, there's a "friend list" in Guild Wars. You can talk to them in private and it'll also show what alias they are using. I hope they put in the email system again, so you can talk to your friends when they are not on Guild Wars.

If you are used to the W,A,S,D controls of most FPS's, then controls won't be a problem. You could also use mouse click if you don't like those. I don't find controls to be a problem in this, or most, computer games.
